Mio Tamayama was born 1992 in Tokyo. She started her music career at the age of 4, playing the piano. At the age of 9 she began playing the double bass. Later she studied in the piano class at the TOHO Music Junior High School, as well as in the double bass class in the higher school at the Tokyo University of the Arts. In 2013 she started Bachelor studies, and later Master’s studies in Hochschule für Musik in Mainz in the class of Professor Waldemar Schwiertz. In 2016 she won the 1st prize during the scholarship program ZIRP in Rheinland-Pfaltz. She has cooperated with such orchestras and ensembles as: Neumeyer Consort, Ensemble Resonanz, Orff Academy of the Münchner Rundfunkorchester, NDR Radiophilharmonie and Academy of the Philharmonisches Staatsorchester Hamburg. Since 2016 she’s been Co-Principal Double Bassist in Theater Plauen-Zwickau.
