Dominik Polak was born in 1990. He began playing the double bass in 2001
in the Stanisław Moniuszko 1st degree State Music School in Katowice
in the class of Jan Kotula. He continued learning in the Karol Szymanowski 2nd degree State Music School in Katowice, which he completed with distinction
in 2009. From 2009 to 2014 he studied in the Karol Szymanowski Academy
of Music in Katowice in the class of prof. Waldemar Tarnowski. He is a laureate of e.g. the 2nd prize at the 9th Adam Bronisław Ciechański National Double Bass Competition in Poznań (2012), the 2nd prize at the 2014 International Double Bass Competition in Amsterdam, the 3rd prize at the World Bass Festival
in Wrocław (2010), a distinction at the 9th Michał Spisak International Music Competition in Dąbrowa Górnicza (2015).
Since 2012 he has been a chamber musician of the AUKSO Chamber Orchestra of the City of Tychy. He cooperates also with the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra in Katowice, the New Music Orchestra, and abroad with the National Basque Symphony Orchestra in San Sebastian (Spain) and Wuerth Philharmoniker (Germany). He has performed in many prominent concert halls, such as the Cadogan Hall in London, the Usher Hall in Edinburgh, Kursaal in San Sebastian, Palacio Euskalduna in Bilbao, and the National Concert Hall in Dublin.
