He studied at the State Higher Music School in Katowice in the bassoon class under prof. Wiktor Osadzin, earning diploma with distinction in 1965.

He won the 1st award at the National Competition for Chamber Ensembles in Katowice in the category of quintets (1963), 3rd award at the Competition for Young Musicians in Gdańsk (1966), as well as participated in the competitions in Geneva (diploma in 1967), Budapest and Prague.

In 1961-1968 he was the principal bassoonist of the Silesian Philharmonic in Katowice, and then he began to work at the National Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra in Katowice, where he was the principal bassoonist, and at the same time a member of the Polish Radio Brass Quintet until September 2007. In 1974-1975, he was the Director of the Grand Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra (currently National Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra) in Katowice. He has participated in over 70 concert tours in Europe, USA, Japan, Brazil, South Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Turkey, Lebanon, Iran, performing in many renowned concert halls, e.g. during prestigious music festivals (e.g. Berliner Festwochen, Europa Musical in Munich, Festival de Música de Canarias, Pražské jaro, Wien Modern, Musicprotokoll in Graz). He has played under the direction of the following outstanding conductors: Leonard Bernstein, Kurt Mazur, Stanisław Skrowaczewski, Carlo Zecchi, Jerzy Semkow, Antoni Wit, Krzysztof Penderecki, Jan Krenz, Jacek Kaspszyk, Stanisław Wisłocki, Jerzy Maksymiuk, Bogdan Wodiczko, Karol Stryja, Neville Mariner, Emin Khatchatourian. He has made numerous archival recordings for the Polish Radio.

He has been a teacher for over 25 years. In 1980-2016, he was a teacher at the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice, whereas in 2002-2008 he held the position of Dean of the Vocal-Instrumental Faculty at this university.

He has been a jury member of the Academic International Competition for Oboe and Bassoon in Sieradz and Łódź since 1996, as well as the Artistic Director of the Michał Spisak International Music Competition since 2006.
