Jean-Marc FESSARD studied at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris, the Paris University (Master Musicology) and Gdańsk Academy of Music (PhD). He was prizewinner of the Concours d’Interprétation Jacques Lancelot (1st prize), the Paris International Competition (3rd prize, 1996), Illzach (1st prize 1997) and Gdańsk (1st prize and Special prize of the Hamburg Brahms Society 1997).He leads an international career both in chamber music and as a soloist accompanied by prestigious ensembles (National orchestras of Poznań, Szczecin, Katowice, Bakou, Gdańsk, Polish National Radio Orchestra, Polish chamber Orchestra, Chamber orchestra of the Czech Philharmonic, Zagreb Chamber Orchestra, Erevan National Orchestra, Orchestre de chambre de Wallonie, Elysee, Ebène, and Wieniawski Quartets).

Involved in creating contemporary music, dedicatee of many works, and member of the Ensemble Sillages, Jean-Marc Fessard is a frequent contributor to Polish radio and television, the BBC and Radio France. In April 2011 he had performed the Tansman clarinet concerto at the Warszaw Polish Radio Studio I. In November 2011 he had recorded ” D’un silence…” the clarinet concerto by Piotr Moss with the National Polish Radio Orchestra conducted by Michał Klauza (Dux 1118). Jean-Marc Fessard has recorded some 30 CD’s for such labels as Naxos, Dux, Universal, Quantum, Signature Radio-France, Kalidisc, Clarinet Classics, Ameson, which regularly receive excellent reviews in the press. His last one with the music by Allain Gaussin (Ameson) receives the prestigious Grand Prix de l’Académie Charles Cros. Yvonne Loriod-Messiaen described his version of the Quatuor pour la Fin du Temps by Olivier Messiaen as “Simply admirable” (Dux 0459). He has recorded for Naxos Alexander Tansman’s Concerto and Concertino, as the chamber music for clarinet. “Polish Music for clarinet and piano” including rare works by Szałowski, Perkowski, Moss, Rathaus is available in London “Clarinet Classics” catalogue. As a bass clarinet specialist, he has put together in a CD “Dedicaces” works dedicated to him (Quantum). Jean-Marc Fessard teachs at the Brussels Royal Conservatory and has been invited to give masterclasses in the Czech republic (Prague Conservatory, Ostrava University), China (Central Conservatory, China Conservatory and Music University in Beijing), Poland (Gdańsk, Poznań, Lódz, Katowice), the UK (Royal College of Music, London), Mexico (Mexico National Conservatory), Spain (Royal Conservatory in Madrid and Sevilla). He is a member of the jury of the Gdańsk International Brahms Competition, Lódz Alexander Tansman International Chamber Music Competition and the Polish National Karol Kurpiński clarinet competition in Włoszakowice.

Since 2012 Jean-Marc Fessard  is director of publications for “Editions Gérard Billaudot Paris”. He is the author of “The Evolution of the Clarinet” (Billaudot Paris) and a new clarinet method in 3 books (Ecoute ! Je Joue…Billaudot Paris).
