Grzegorz Popławski was born on 13 September 1993 in Bytom. Graduate of the 1st and 2nd degree Fryderyk Chopin State Music School in Bytom, in the bassoon class of mgr Tadeusz Łukosz. In April 2012, at the concert
of distinguished graduates, he performed the 2nd and 3rd part of Concerto
in F-major op. 75 by Carl Maria von Weber with the Silesian Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra in Katowice.
He also performed Bassoon Concerto in B Flat by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart with this orchestra during the concert of graduates after completing studies
at the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice, where he had studied under the guidance of prof. Marek Barański. In November 2017, he began to work in the position of the principal bassoonist at the Fryderyk Chopin Polish Baltic Philharmonic in Gdańsk. Grzegorz Popławski has taken part in workshops run e.g. by prof. Jaroslawv Kubita, prof. Pierre Martens and prof. Matthias Rácz. As a free-lance musician, he has cooperated with the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra in Katowice, Sinfonia Varsovia Orchestra and Sinfonietta Cracovia.
In the artistic season 2017/2018, he was a participant of the 6th edition
of Sinfonia Varsovia Academy under the guidance of prof. Zbigniew Płużek.
In the academic years 2014/2015 and 2015/2016 he received the rector’s scholarship for the best students, whereas in 2014 and 2017 he obtained the the Award of the President of Bytom for outstanding artistic achievements.
He has won awards in many international competitions, including competitions with a chamber ensemble, e.g. 1st place in the 11th International Interpretative Competition for Wind Instruments in Brno, 1st place in the 16th Etudes Competition of the Department of Wind and Percussion Instruments at the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice, 3rd place in the 7th International Carl Maria von Weber International Bassoon Competition
in Wrocław and 3rd place in the 10th International Interpretative Competition for Wind Instruments Brno 2015.
